Your Top Tarot Questions Answered
When I tell people I read Tarot for a living, I usually get one of the following reactions:
- “What is that?”
- “How do Tarot cards work?”
- “Oh so you’re a psychic? What am I thinking about right now?”
- Some variation of Tarot being a way that witches talk to the devil and spread evil.
- “You know that’s all complete BS, right?”
- “OMG I LOVE TAROT OMG WHEN IS YOUR NEXT AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT” (obviously this one is my favorite).
So, some of these are better than others, but needless to say that even among Tarot lovers, there’s still some confusion. I’m going to answer these to the best of my abilities.
*Note: this is all according to my own personal experiences. Everyone has a different interpretation for how Tarot works and what the various cards mean.
“What is that?”
Great question! Here’s a brief history:
Tarot was not originally used in the way it is now. The first appearance of Tarot cards was in 1440 in Italy (where they were referred to as “Tarocci”) were used to play a game called “Triumph” which was similar to Bridge. There was nothing mystical about them. It wasn’t until 1781 that the cards were discovered by members of the occult who thought they had more meaning behind them than just mere playing cards. They started using them as divination tools, and The Tarot was born.
The Tarot itself is 78 cards. There are 22 Major Arcana cards, and 56 Minor Arcana cards. Major Arcana cards indicate major life themes, and the Minor Arcana indicate either people, smaller events or themes which compliment the Major Arcana. The Minor Arcana is divided into four suits (Cups, Pentacles, Swords and Wands). Each of these represents a life element. Cups typically represents emotions, Pentacles represents material wealth, Swords represents the mind, and Wands represents action.
“How do Tarot cards work?”
Again, I can only speak for myself and base things off of my own experiences. There is a reason that each of us is on this earth. Your soul chose your body in this life to fulfill a purpose, or as us Spiritual hippies call it, a “soul mission”. In order to achieve ultimate fulfillment, you have to learn tough life lessons that unlock your soul mission. Now, this shit sucks. Learning what you need to learn in order to fulfill your purpose takes a ton of courage, strength and willpower. AKA- you need some help. I believe that every person is being looked after by a higher power. You can call them Spirit Guides, Guardian Angels, Saints, etc. Something not of this world is guiding you to make sure that you fulfill what you need to fulfill and live your best life. Now here’s the fun part- Tarot cards are used as a form of communication between you and your Guides. Through the cards, your Guides tell you what you need to work on, where you need to focus and what you need to do next.
Now, if you are not in tune with your intuition, it may be tough to read for yourself (for tips on unblocking your intuition, click HERE). This is where I come in. When you sit down in front of me and shuffle the cards, I am asking the Guides to open a connection between the three of us so that I can do the translating.
I have what I call an “energetic understanding” with the Guides that I channel. About 10 minutes before each reading, one or both of my arms will start to go numb. I take that to mean, “Hey Meena, I’m _____’s Spirit Guide and I’m ready when you guys are”.
“Oh so you’re a psychic? What am I thinking about right now?”
I am not a psychic. I get visions of what will happen in the future, but I can’t call them on command. When I first started to get these visions, I did think I was becoming psychic (and I was super excited). Much to my chagrin, I could not close my eyes and know everything that was going to happen all the time. This led me to wonder, “ok so then… what am I?”
This is when I began to understand that Tarot readers are not meant to be fortune tellers. Our purpose is not to tell the future. We exist to show you what your next life lesson is and what roadblocks exist within you that you must overcome so that you can achieve that which you desire. This is why I love Tarot- it shows that there is both fate and free will.
Some variation of Tarot being a way that witches talk to the devil and spread evil.
I actually completely get this concern. I literally just told you I talk to bodiless entities from origins unknown. To a lot of people, that = the devil/evil. All I can tell you is that when I channel a Guide, I feel a sense of eternal and limitless love that almost brings me to tears. I only wish that everyone in this world can feel this level of love at some point in their lives. It’s a devotion like you’ve never known before- and that is what watches over you! Infinite love and compassion. There's no way that can be evil.
“You know that’s all complete BS, right?”
I also understand this sentiment. Again, it is insane if you think about it. I guess I’m just so used to this now that I don’t consider it to be “impossible”. I don't put anything in the impossible category anymore. I've seen so many things that defy logic and reality that I have no choice but to accept that some things just can't be explained, and that modern day tools we use to measure facts is very limited.
I wish everyone believed in miracles. I wish everyone believed in magic. How amazing would your life be if you really understood that at any moment, you could change your entire life just by understanding how the Universe works? The Law of Attraction is real, and so are the Guides who look after you.
Tarot is definitely not for everyone. I can only channel your Guide if you let me. Only if you’re open to it. If you come to me with the intention of proving that I’m a fraud, I won’t be able to get anything from you since you’re effectively blocking my abilities. This is why you should come with an open mind, even if you’re a skeptic. As long as there is some small part of you that actually wants to hear what I have to say, I think you’ll be surprised at what I see.
I’ll tell you one thing for sure: you can’t hide from your Guides. If you are meant for something extraordinary but you’re ignoring those abilities, the Guides will force you. By force, I mean they’ll take a sledgehammer to your life and drag you to rock bottom. I’ve seen this soooooo many times. Former skeptics getting their ass handed to them by the Universe until they’re desperate enough to finally hear what I have to say. You’re no match for the power of the Universe and for beings of a higher consciousness, people.
